Rural preceptors are the primary source of rural training. Rural practice also "trained" many family practice faculty in the nation as 800 of the 2500 in 1995 were rural physicians. Clearly rural health has given much to family medicine, it has certainly helped fund it and staff it, so it has a right to expect much in return.
Involvement is the key to a great preceptorship.

Would rather you meet with other preceptors and others involved with education and make listings of local assets and resources to use rather than elite teaching methods. This assumes that you do orient students, find out what they are interested in, make mid course corrections, and give them feedback at the end.
